Surgical Recovery  Equipment

Your recovery begins before your surgery.

At Banff Sport Medicine, we believe that successful surgical outcomes depend on more than the procedure itself. The right post-operative equipment, combined with expert guidance and rehabilitation, can help reduce pain and swelling, protect healing tissues, improve mobility, and support a safe return to everyday activities.

If your surgeon recommends surgery, they will also discuss any recovery equipment that is appropriate for your procedure. Before you leave your surgical consultation, you will meet with our Banff Sport Bracing team, who will ensure your prescribed equipment is properly fitted, explain how to use it, and answer any questions you may have. Our goal is for you to leave your appointment fully prepared for surgery and recovery.

Equipment Recommended by Your Surgeon

Every surgery is different, which means every recovery plan is unique. Depending on your procedure, your surgeon may recommend equipment such as:

  • Cold Therapy Systems

  • Post-operative Knee Braces

  • Shoulder Slings and Immobilizers

  • Walking Boots

  • Compression Garments

  • Reparel™ Recovery Sleeves

  • Crutches

  • Electrical Muscle Stimulation (EMS)

  • Other procedure-specific braces and supports

Each item is recommended to support your individual recovery plan and help you heal safely and effectively.

Why Recovery Matters

The first few weeks after surgery are critical to your recovery. Properly fitted medical equipment helps protect your surgical repair while allowing you to begin moving safely as directed by your surgeon.

Many patients also benefit from cold therapy, compression, and supportive bracing, which have been shown to help reduce post-operative pain and swelling, improve comfort, and may decrease the need for pain medication during recovery.

Convenient, One-Stop Surgical Care

Because Banff Sport Bracing works directly alongside our orthopaedic surgeons and sport medicine physicians, you don't need to visit multiple locations before your surgery.

During your surgical consultation, your surgeon and our bracing team work together to ensure you receive the equipment prescribed for your procedure. In most cases, your equipment can be professionally fitted and taken home the very same day, giving you time to become familiar with it before surgery and ensuring you're ready for recovery when you return home.
